Throughout the last two years, gradual hair colouring and dip dyed hair has became the phase and unique way of changing your hair with only a slight, subtle change. Celebrities such as Leighton Meester, Caroline Flack, Nicola Roberts and Cher Lloyd have changed their hair by using this technique, have you noticed?
Becky and I have both had experience of dip dyeing our hair, whether to make a statement or just to change. It is very simple to do and can take very little time, but can change your entire look. For example, I have always had very dark brunette hair but throughout summer, I wanted a lighter and softer look. My first idea was to dye my hair blonde, but it was too much of a drastic change. So, I decided to try dip dyeing and I still have my hair dip dyed to this day. Everyone, I can imagine worries when dyeing their hair the complete opposite colour to their natural hair colour. It is can be a major concern of "what will happen", however, following a few steps it can help make the change less damaging. For example, before I dip dye my hair at home there are a few steps I follow:
- Check my ends and see what condition they are in.
- If they are in bad condition, I'd advise either to trim your ends with hair dressing scissors to cut off all split ends or use a strengthening serum for a few weeks and check again.
- After you have check if your ends are strong enough, check how much you would like to do. I have quite long hair so I dye a reasonable amount to give a certain look or style. You must have an idea in mind about this, or you could end up with too little or too much.
- It is also very useful if before you dip dye your hair you buy a intense conditioner or hair hot oil treatment to strengthen your hair from dyeing.
Once you have followed these few steps, it allows you to feel more comfortable and confident about dip dyeing your hair in future. Every colour on every persons hair will have a different outcome. If it was your first time to dye your hair blonde, it may not come out as light as you may wish. I'd advise from experience to leave your hair for a few weeks before returning to dye your ends again as they may become brittle and sometimes be hard to care for as your ends can become brittle and dry, but with a bit of TLC, you can over come this.
From still having my hair dip dyed, I have to keep to re-dye my hair to make sure it stands out that little bit more. I re-dye my hair every 4-8 weeks depending on circumstances. As again, it varies on different colours. When I dip dyed my hair blue, I had to return to dye it every 6 days as it was only a semi-permanent dye. Becky, who also dip dyed her hair pink had to return to dye her hair every 4 days as it was also semi-permanent dye. The length of how long the dye will last varies on the product and whether semi-permanent or permanent.
This is only a taster of some advice on dip dyeing hair. Within the next few days, there will be an uploaded tutorial and advice on products to use to do so at home. Meanwhile, here are some examples that may inspire you to dip dye your hair.
